Accessibility Statement

We want this site to work for everyone who visits it, including people using a keyboard, a screen reader or magnification. This page explains how we approach that, what is in place today, and how to tell us when something doesn’t work.

How we approach accessibility

Accessibility is part of how a page gets built here, not a pass at the end. When we decide something about markup, colour, focus or motion, we try to pick the option that keeps the page usable for more people. It is work we build toward and keep returning to.

What we’ve built into this site

  • Semantic HTML: real headings, lists, landmarks and form labels, so assistive technology gets structure rather than guesswork.
  • A skip link straight to the main content on every page that carries the site navigation.
  • Keyboard operation for the navigation, the mobile menu and the contact form. The menu reports whether it is open and closes on Escape.
  • A visible focus indicator on every interactive element. Links and buttons take an outline; the contact form’s own fields take a thicker underline instead. We don’t hide the focus state to tidy a page up.
  • Text alternatives on images, with decorative artwork hidden so it isn’t read out for no reason.
  • Colour chosen with contrast in mind. Small text uses the darker end of our palette, so it stays readable at the size it is actually set.
  • Respect for your system’s reduced-motion setting. Animation sits on top of a page that already reads correctly, and when you ask for less of it, none is applied.
  • Layouts that work at phone widths as well as desktop, and nothing that blocks pinch-zoom.
  • A contact form that announces its result, so you hear whether the message sent.

Standards, and what we don’t claim

The Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) inform the work. We use them as the reference when deciding how something should behave.

We don’t claim a conformance level and we aren’t certified. This site hasn’t been independently audited, so any level we put in writing would be a guess. Standards get revised, browsers change, and assistive technology changes with them, so this stays ongoing work. A report from you is worth more to us than a badge.

Why there’s no accessibility widget here

You won’t find an accessibility overlay or toolbar here, and that is deliberate. An overlay sits on top of a page and offers a panel of settings. It can’t supply a label nobody wrote, give a control a keyboard path it doesn’t have, or make a muddled heading structure make sense, and it can get in the way of the tools a person already uses. We would rather fix the page.

Tell us if something doesn’t work

If any part of this site gets in your way, we want to hear about it. Email info@8wardmarketing.com, which is the most direct route. The contact form reaches us too.

What to include

  • The address of the page you were on.
  • What you were trying to do.
  • Your browser and your device.
  • Any assistive technology you were using, and its version if you know it.
  • What happened, and what you expected instead.

If you can’t put all that together, send what you can.

What happens after you report it

A person reads it and replies. We’ll tell you what we found, whether we can fix it and roughly when. We’re a small studio, so we won’t pretend to a fixed turnaround. Some things sit outside what we control, like a browser’s own behaviour. Where that’s the case, we’ll say so.

Getting the information another way

If part of this site isn’t working for you and you still need what’s on it, ask and we’ll get it to you another way: plain text in an email, or a conversation where we go through it with you.

Sites we build for clients

Most of what we make is websites for other businesses. If you hit a barrier on a site 8ward built, send it to the same address. Where we still look after the site, we’ll raise it with the owner and we can do the work if they ask us to. Where we don’t, we’ll pass it to the business that owns it, and the decision is theirs.
